Did you know it’s totally okay and actually, one of the biggest homeschool blessings to do this?
Yeah, as homeschoolers we can do this and we don’t have anyone telling us we can’t do it either.
We don’t have someone standing over us making sure we’re “doing that other thing” instead of doing this amazing thing.
Hmmm… what am I talking about today? Any guesses what “this” is referring to? Okay, I’ll just tell ya.
It’s simple.
The “THIS” in the above statements are simply “tailoring our children’s studies to their current interests”. Boom!
So, let’s try this again.
Did you know it’s totally okay and actually, one of the biggest homeschool blessings to tailor our children’s studies to their current interests?
Yeah, as homeschoolers we can run with their interests and we don’t have anyone telling us we can’t do it either.
We don’t have someone standing over us making sure we’re continuing with the curriculum or lessons we had planned instead of switching things up a bit for some fun to dive into learning about a specific topic of interest.
This I am so thankful for, because that is exactly how we spend a lot of our time in our homeschool.
And because we use my super simple curriculum, The Simplified Feast in our homeschool, I am able to pause for a few lessons and take time to dive into something totally different whenever I want, and The Simplified Feast will be there for me when I’m ready to jump back into it.
For instance— One week, we dove headfirst into studying about the Titanic.
Why? Because we were taking a trip to Branson, Missouri and we were going to visit the Titanic museum!
Spoiler alert— it was amazing!🤩

So, I thought it would be super fitting to study about the Titanic before we headed there so we could have a deeper background knowledge about the Titanic before seeing everything in person.
And this is what truly brought our Titanic Museum field trip to life for us.
Actually being able to see artifacts of things we had read about, see images of real passengers, stick our hands in cold water to see how the Pacific Ocean felt the night that the Titanic sank… it all became so real to us. It was amazing.
And honestly, what I love about homeschooling so much is that we can literally learn at our own pace and do some real “life-schooling” whenever we want or need to.
👉 Like on family trips that we also dubbed as an educational adventure at the same time, because, why not?!
So, if I can encourage you today it would be with this:
Pause + switch things up in your homeschool.
It’s okay to pause your curriculum, your books, your lesson plans, your weekly schedule, and switch things up to study something else for a bit.
For example:
- Are you going to the zoo? Study about animals and habitats. Hellloooo science.
- Are you planning a visit to a national monument? Read books, look up pictures and study it first. Hellloooo history.
- Are you traveling to a different state/country? Research the area before you go! Hellloooo geography and social studies.
It’s okay to pause everything you’re doing in your homeschool and switch things up to study something else for a change. It’s spices homeschool life up a bit too!
So what do you think? Do you have anything exciting planned that you may want to study for a bit? Does your child have this sudden deep interest in a topic that you feel you should let them run with and learn about?
