Traveling to Isreal
Imagine yourself traveling across the globe…
Soaring over majestic deserts…
Across beautiful beaches…
You have now landed in one of the most sought-after, historical places in the world…
The precious Holy Land of Israel.
As you stroll through the streets and markets, you see the native Jewish people, smell the delicious fragrance of herbs and spices, and even taste traditional Israeli fare from local vendors.
Your excursion continues as you navigate through the historical places of the Bible. Places where even Jesus Christ walked and taught, as well as other famous people from the Bible.
Throughout your travel experience, you find yourself completely immersed in the experience and beauty of Israel.
Now, for most of us, we might not be able to experience Israel by physically traveling there, as mentioned in the above scenario, however, you can still experience Israel in a wonderful way by using something called “Artza Box”.
And not only experience Israel with your family, but you can also incorporate this wonderful experience in your very own homeschool using the beautiful, Artza Boxes that come out each quarter!
What is an Artza box?

Artza Box is a subscription box company that is curated by the Artza team to bring you an amazing experience in each subscription box.
Each box contains up to 9 handcrafted artisanal gifts, scripture and stories, that follow the footsteps of Jesus, the Bible.
And this is achieved all while supporting the small businesses, artisans, and people of Israel. Win, Win, Win!
Every quarter, the team at Artza rolls out a brand new box to bring you a completely new adventure to a new place in Israel.
An Artza Subscription Box also makes a unique gift during the holiday season, or just a “because gift” for creative people, art enthusiasts, people interested in different cultures, the Bible, and of course, homeschooling families!
During the month of December, Artza also offers a Christmas box each year which makes amazing Christmas gifts.
Some of their previous Christmas boxes offered were the Bethlehem box and the Nazareth Box. What a perfect gift for the holidays!

What comes in an Artza Box?

As noted from the Artza website, each box contains:
- Something for the soul
- Something to inspire
- Something to learn
- Something to taste
- Something to share
- Something for the body
- Something to cook
- Something to cherish
Here are a few things that came in my Judaean Desert Artza Box:

Something to Taste

Cooking with your kids is such a fun bonding experience, not to mention the learning aspect of it.
Cook with each other and enjoy a special new treat using ingredients from your Artza Box.
Food items in my Judaean Desert Box included: Rosemary Dead Sea Salt from 424 Salt, Pure Date Honey from Lins Farm and ground coffee from ArgoCafe.
Something for the Body

These Dead Sea bath salts from Yonat Midbar smell wonderful! I can’t wait to use mine.
Something to Cherish and Learn

This was probably my favorite item in the Judaean Desert box. Especially since we homeschool and I can see the many ways we can use it in our homeschool history lessons.
You can use this replica of the Dead Sea Scrolls as a great teaching prop and then read the pamphlet inside to learn more. Super cool!
So, now that you know WHAT an Artza Box is, let’s dive into HOW you can use an Artza Box for your own homeschool.
Why Homeschoolers Should Study Israel
First off, why should a homeschooling family study Israel in the first place?
Well, the Land of Israel is a fascinating country for any student, homeschoolers especially!
If you are a homeschooler and you are looking for your next academic adventure, then look no further than Israel.
Israel has been a staple of religious studies for EVER and you can incorporate your faith, the Bible, geography, social studies and more into the studying of Israel.
How to Incorporate an Artza Box into your homeschool
If you’ve ever wanted to truly experience another country in your homeschool for world study, geography, and culture study, now is your time!
Because items in the Artza box subscription include meaningful or educational gifts, you can easily create your own Israel Unit Study revolving around the items in each box.
Here are some ways you can incorporate Artza Boxes into your homeschool this year.
Why Should I Use an Artza Box to Learn about Israel in my Homeschool?

You may be wondering why you should use an Artza Box to learn about Israel, instead of just printing off an Israel Unit Study from the internet.
Well, that’s a great question!
Here are the benefits of using an Artza box to study Israel in your Homeschool:
- Faith- Each box contains something for the soul. You can use this gift to incorporate your faith into your homeschool lesson with your children. (Bible study)
- Learn- Each box is equipped with beautiful postcards of places in Israel that you can further study for a more in-depth look at the historical places. (Geography and World Study)

How to Easily turn my Artza Box into an Israel Unit Study
7 creative ways of study Israel using an Artza Box

Here are the steps for creating an Israel Unit Study using an Artza Box.
You can pick and choose which way you use an Artza Box in your homeschool to study Israel.
1. Geography Study
Study the exact place that the quarterly Artza Box is focusing on.
In my case, it was the Judean Desert.
Do a Geography Study in this way:
- Look at Google Earth or Google Maps or images online
- Get books from your library of that particular area
- Have your child locate the area on your map or globe
2. Book Reports, Research Papers or Oral Narration

Included in each Artza box, are a small collection of postcards.
The postcards have beautiful photographs of ancient places in Israel that most of us otherwise, would have never seen.
How to Incorporate the Artza Subscription Box Postcards into Your Homeschool-
Google information or get books from your local library to learn more about the places on the postcards in this way:

- What is the weather and climate like?
- What kind of homes do people live in?
- What are common industries there?
- What animals live there?
- What foods are most popular?
- …and so on!
You can also take this a step further by opening up your Bible and doing a Bible study of when and where the Bible talked about those particular places.
Have your child do a book report, research paper or just a simple oral narration to tell you what they’ve learned.
3. Occupational Study
In each Artza box, there are informational cards that tell about the different small Israeli businesses that contributed their goods into that quarter’s Artza box.
Do an occupational study in this way:
- Read about each small business
- Check out their websites
- Find out where their businesses are located and do a Google Earth or Google Maps “drive-by”.
- What does this business do?
- Where do they sell their goods?
- How did the business get started?
You can also have your kids write a short paper about each business they learned about (for Language Arts).

4. Home Economics, Cooking Class

One cool thing about each Artza Box, is that they include something your can taste or cook with, followed by a recipe card.
Now for all the hands-on learners out there, this is a great way to truly experience Israel.
How to turn do a cooking class or home economics study with your Artza goods:
- Make the recipe with your child using the recipe card included
- Look up another traditional Jewish recipe from that area and make it together
- Come up with your own recipe using the edible ingredients in your Artza subscription boxes
What a wonderful way to truly taste a part of Israel!
5. Arts and Crafts
Inside each Artza box, the team at Artza have hand-picked something for each Artza box family to cherish for themselves.
For an art class/art study you do this in your homeschool:
- You can have your child try to create their own rendition of the beautiful piece of artwork or handiwork included
- They can paint a picture of it or draw a picture of it
Ask questions like:
- Who is the artist?
- What medium or materials did they use?
- What sticks out to them in the piece of artwork?
6. Foreign Language
On one of the cards included in the Artza box, there will be a small section to teach you some of the Hebrew language.
You and your homeschoolers can study the Hebrew alphabet together and learn the Hebrew word or phrase.
Google translate is awesome for help with proper pronunciation!
7. Final Project on Israel

After your immerse yourself in all the things included in your Artza box, do deeper studies surrounding your gifts and learn more about Israel, you can have your child create a final project describing all they have learned.
How to do a final project using your Artza Box for homeschool:
- They can create a poster
- They can create research paper
- They can make a diorama of one of the geographical places taught about in the box
The possibilities are endless when it comes to doing your final project on Israel.
As you can see, Artza boxes are a great addition to homeschooling families as there are many amazing ways you can incorporate your Artza Box subscription into your very own homeschooling lessons.
