We both love and have a passion for homeschooling our kids.
I mean, I believe I can safely assume that you love homeschooling or else you wouldn’t be here, right?!
But, today I want to share my TOP FIVE simple ways that I love to homeschool and why it’s so freeing as a busy homeschool mama.
Simplicity in my Homeschool: Why It’s Freeing as a Busy Homeschool Mom
✨#1– I love that I can let life and the world around us be the teacher at times.
This is so freeing to me as busy homeschool mom because when we have those days that don’t go as planned, or we’re just super busy, I’m not stressing over trying to mark off some homeschool checklist because I know my kiddos are still learning. They’re learning when they’re playing outside, reading a novel on their own, while we’re cooking, working in the yard, and, and, and!
✨#2– Podcasts + audiobooks!
As a busy, eclectic homeschool mama who leans heavily towards the Charlotte Mason philosophy of education, ain’t nobody got time to sit over lengthy teachers manuals, read from textbooks or hand out busywork. Also, I wouldn’t want to! However, one huge game-changer in our busy homeschool life has been adding in simple podcasts and audiobooks to our homeschool routine.
This is so freeing to me a busy homeschool mom because we can listen anywhere, at anytime. If we’re running errands, we can pop on a science podcast. If we’re eating lunch, we can listen to a history podcast. Before bed, or during long car rides, we can enjoy a beautiful, living, family read-aloud together, without me having to even to purchase a book, flip pages, or read. **Although, I actually do enjoy reading aloud, lol.**
✨#3– I love that we are able to keep our homeschool days short.
This is so freeing to me as a busy homeschool mama because I don’t want my children’s childhood to be filled with stuffing their brains with facts, “just because”, or just to say “we did school for 7 hours”, as a traditional school would. Instead, I love that we can finish our homeschool days in just a few short hours and then my kids can have playtime, outdoor time and time to spend on their hobbies and interests. They only get one childhood and I don’t want to suck out the life of it by cramming a bunch of facts into their minds all day that they most likely wouldn’t remember anyway. I mean, can you tell me all the dates you learned back in 2nd grade about President Lincoln?
✨#4– I have three children and I love that I’m able to bring them all together for their subjects besides math and language arts.
This is SOOOO very freeing to me as a busy homeschool mama because I honestly just don’t have the time to spend 1-on-1 with each them for every.single.subject. Now, don’t get me wrong, they def get 1-on-1 time with specific subjects such as the one who struggles in math, or my little one who’s still learning her phonics…. but I love that we can all work and learn TOGETHER as a homeschool family. The older ones help the younger, we work together as a team, we bounce ideas and opinions off of each other, and they love it more than doing individual work.
✨#5– And lastly, I love having a relaxed approach to our simple homeschool life, because this means we can take days off when we need to, whenever we need to, without stressing over it.
Finally, this last one is freeing to me as a busy homeschool mama because truly, there are just some days I don’t wanna homeschool. Somedays, we’d rather go to the beach. Somedays, we wanna do a playdate and not have to wake up early just to “school” before we leave. Somedays, my husband has off from work and we want to spend a family day. And somedays, we decide to stay up late, have a bonfire or listen to an audiobook on the couch with snacks, and I don’t want to feel pressured to wake my kids up early, just so we can homeschool.
Yes, this last one is SO very freeing because I realize that we are on no homeschool time constraint. We have no one to measure up to. We can homeschool, lifeschool, unschool, or whatever school, WHENEVER we want, anytime. Amen and amen!
Now, does all this simplicity in my homeschool make me a lazy homeschool mom?
Absolutely not and on the contrary.
In fact, this is called making homeschool work for us and giving our children an abundant and full education that’s not held down to checklists, schedules or the ideas of society!
